Good communication is essential everywhere you are, at work, at home, in the car, bad communication will get you dead.
Its the same thing in the kitchen , you always have to be talking to everybody, in order to understand where they are and so that they understand where you are.
In this first part I will talk about the server-chef communication, in most of the bigger restaurants you have only one chef that talks to the servers, and checks the food and tells them where to go, it is one of the most important jobs in the kitchen, with lots of orders coming inn and food going out, if you do not have this one person telling people where to go and what they are taking out, then chaos will ensue.
In the smaller hotels and or restaurants( like the one I currently work at) we normally do not have that one person that I mentioned above, so in that case it is essential to always ask the servers questions about how the table are, have they been served their drinks, essentially how far they are in their experience.
The more you have to do the more questions you have to ask, the questions are asked again and again, it all borders or exceeds the line of nagging.
But the nagging is for a good cause the complete satisfaction of the guest, and that is what happens time and time again.
