In a world were we have less and less time, a world where quality, exceptional taste and beauty take a backseat to speed and quantity, we have our processed foods.
Many people that go out to a restaurant might ask the server if the food is fresh, but who asks if it is processed?
Processed food has a bad reputation these days, but it cannot be because of the names they are given, like “fish sticks”, that makes total sense, those two words go together like oil and water, perhaps a better name would be “fish-ish” or simply “fish?”, then you have “hot dog” also a very reasonable name, hot because it is served hot and dog because that is the only animal you will not be eating when you eat this product, a good alternate name would be mystery meat. ” so mysterious even we do not know what is inside”.
On the business side though processed foods are genius, to enjoy most of them you must buy something else with it, like breakfast cereal and milk, hot dog and bread or ketchup…..sky is the limit there, chicken nuggets and dipping sauce, and many many more.
It’s mostly machines that make and deal with our processed foods, so one might say that there is no love in the machines and thus in the food they process, but machines have shown us that they can love ( example: terminator franchise and WALL-E).
What we learn from most processed foods is that you can pretty much grind up any type of meat or wheat or vegetable give it a catchy name, maybe even a catchy jingle with a phat beat, and we will buy it and eat it in large quantities, because next to the pig we really are the animal that will eat almost anything
