For those who do not know lutefisk is a typical Norwegian or northern European fish dish, it is cod/whitefish that is soaked in lye for several months hints its name translated lyefish.
It is a traditional dish for Christmas although not many family’s eat it on Christmas eve, we mostly eat it on the build up or after.

After it is done with the whole lye soaking thing it is salted and then cooked or steamed and in the end it has the same consistency as jello, sounds good right?
It is normally served with mustard ( dry and normal), bacon that is cooked almost burnt in hot fat or hot butter,( and they call Americans unhealthy), and mashed green peas, cooked potatoes, and lefse ( it is a traditional Norwegian flatbread made with milk, cream or potatoes and looks like a tortilla, just it is thinner and more frail.

In my own opinion Lutefisk is disgusting, it smells like cooked fish marinated in soap, which is not so surprising since lye is used in soap making and lutefisk making, and the taste is salty and very strange if you are not used to it.
The look is not any better, it looks like it was created in a lab were they ripped apart every last molecule and then dragged around from a car for some hours, but I will let you be the judge of that.

Here we have a plate of lutefisk with the mashed green peas. Enjoy
